Tips for Writing a Screenplay for a Low or No Budget Digital Video ...

http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1280072

Before you ever begin producing your narrative digital video film you have to put together a quality screenplay to use. This constructs characters, plots, and an over all story arc for your project. If you are producing this guerilla style, with an ultra-low-budget, then there are certain things you have to remember while you are actually writing the script.

Limit The Characters

Since you will have to be dealing with actors, and will most likely either need to compensate them or give them some type of post-distribution deal, you are going to need to cut down the number of characters as much as possible. This usually isn?t hard because most films, stories in general for that matter; focus on only three or four characters. Try and narrow down the speaking roles as much as possible, but keep at least three characters because that is the number that is usually needed for a really climactic situation to occur. This will also cut down your shooting time, and since only a few people will be working the whole time their immersion in their characters will reduce the number of takes you have to do for each scene.

Limit The Locations

The next most important thing to consider is lowering the number of locations it occurs at. For every new location you have to move the equipment, arrange it perfectly, and get clearance to film there. If you keep it down to just a few central locations this is going to shorten the schedule and keep the cost down. This does not mean there has to be only a couple locations in the story space, but make sure that all locations you are describing in your script can be replicated in just a couple locations.

http://www.sxc.hu/photo/34407

Do What You Know and Have

Make sure that the stories you are writing, and the characters you are creating, are based on things you have and experiences you know. This is good for creating a really in depth story that is personal, but also because you will most likely own everything you need. Any time you have to go purchase a prop you are cutting into your already thin budget. Try writing characters that would wear clothes that you already have, and that would drive the kind of car that is already parked in your garage. Also, remember that anytime you have to build something you are cutting into your schedule and that costs money.

Light

Artificial lighting is one of the most expensive parts of any clandestine production. Shooting at night, or in dark or dim areas, requires you to use complicated and often expensive lighting set-ups. Use natural sunlight whenever possible, and so think about having as many scenes occur in the daytime as possible.? At the same time, this is going to have to be considered in the location choices more than you may think at first.? The locations that you use will limit, or enhance, your lighting choices.? If you want to lower the overall coast you should find locations that have access to natural light that can easily be restricted, lots of available outlets, and multiple circuits that can handle a large workload.

An Interesting Screenplay

The most important thing that you have to remember when you are writing a screenplay like this is to make the story, the people, and the dialogue as intriguing as possible. You do not have big stars, special effects, and other elements of a large studio production to draw an audience so you better make the material as quality as you can. This is true of any production, but especially for this kind of independent film.? You may also want to consider revising the screenplay in response to what you are able to get for a low cost.? This includes altering the script to accommodate certain sets and props as well as to accommodate the actors that you have available to you at your cost.? It is great to have fully realized characters that exist on the page, but it is also wonderful to create characters that can be easily inhabited by those available to you.? Your budget is going to limit your acting pool, both because of the limited resources you have to pay them and the inability to provide travel and housing stipends or per diem.? Instead, you need to apply the limits of performers to your screenplay and try to adapt the themes that made it great to this situation.

New clue to Neanderthal wipe-out

Neanderthals were already on the verge of extinction in Europe by the time modern humans arrived on the scene, a study suggests.

DNA analysis suggests most Neanderthals in western Europe died out as early as 50,000 years ago - thousands of years before our own species appeared.

A small group of Neanderthals then recolonised parts of Europe, surviving for 10,000 years before vanishing.

The work is published in the journal Molecular Biology and Evolution.

An international team of researchers studied the variation, or diversity, in mitochondrial DNA extracted from the bones of 13 Neanderthals.

This type of genetic information is passed down on the maternal line; because cells contain multiple copies of the mitochondrial genome, this DNA is easier to extract from ancient remains than the DNA found in the nuclei of cells.

The fossil specimens came from Europe and Asia and span a time period ranging from 100,000 years ago to about 35,000 years ago.

The scientists found that west European fossils with ages older than 48,000 years, along with Neanderthal specimens from Asia, showed considerable genetic variation.

But specimens from western Europe younger than 48,000 years showed much less genetic diversity (a six-fold reduction in variation compared to the older remains and the Asian Neanderthals).

Neanderthals may have been more sensitive to the dramatic climate changes... than was previously thought?

End Quote Love Dalen Swedish Museum of Natural History

In their scientific paper, the scientists propose that some event - possibly changes in the climate - caused Neanderthal populations in the West to crash around 50,000 years ago. But populations may have survived in warmer southern refuges, allowing the later re-expansion.

Low genetic variation can make a species less resilient to changes in its environment, and place it at increased risk of extinction.

"The fact that Neanderthals in Europe were nearly extinct, but then recovered, and that all this took place long before they came into contact with modern humans, came as a complete surprise," said lead author Love Dalen, from the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm.

"This indicates that the Neanderthals may have been more sensitive to the dramatic climate changes that took place in the last Ice Age than was previously thought."

Neanderthals were close evolutionary cousins of modern humans, and once inhabited Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia. The reasons behind their demise remain the subject of debate.

The appearance of modern humans in Europe around the time of the Neanderthal extinction offers circumstantial evidence that Homo sapiens played a role. But changes in the climate and other factors may have been important contributors.

"The amount of genetic variation in geologically older Neanderthals as well as in Asian Neandertals was just as great as in modern humans as a species," said co-author Anders Gotherstrom, from Uppsala University.

"The variation among later European Neanderthals was not even as high as that of modern humans in Iceland."

The researchers note that the loss of genetic diversity in west European Neanderthals coincided with a climatic episode known as Marine Isotope Stage Three, which was characterised by several brief periods of freezing temperatures.

These cold periods are thought to have been caused by a disturbance of oceanic currents in the North Atlantic, and it is possible that they had a particularly strong impact on the environment in western Europe, note the researchers.

Over the last few decades, research has shown that Neanderthals were undeserving of their brutish reputation.

Researchers recently announced that paintings of seals found in caves at Nerja, southern Spain, might date to 42,000 years - potentially making them the only known art created by Neanderthals. However, this interpretation remains controversial.

Rev. Peter Baldwin Panagore: Seeing the Dead

As the preacher-man got up to leave, the widow put her hand on his arm, saying, "Don't go, I got one more thing." The kitchen quieted. Her boy said, "Ma, don't tell him." The preacher-man said, "Don't tell me what?" Ma whispered, "Last night, 'bout midnight, I heard a noise in this here kitchen, and so I come in to take a look around. I flicked on the overhead light, and right there front of the sink, right there, standing looking right at me, big as life -- was my dead Stan, the love of my life. He always washed the dishes after supper. I know he's dead, but it was him. He was looking at me with those lovin' eyes, and smiling, like he was telling me he was OK. That's the warm feeling I got -- that he's OK. He's OK. Isn't he? Preacher? He was smiling so sweetly, and I felt loved and good. My kids think I was either dreaming or crazy. Sadness can make you crazy. I read that. I ain't never seen nothin' like that, preacher. Nothin'."

The preacher-man stilled himself and said, "No, you're not crazy, Mrs. Kolinsky. Can't tell you how many times I've heard similar stories on days like today, sitting around kitchen tables just like this, talking about death and funerals. What you saw happens to many people, all types of people, only people don't talk about their experiences publicly, except to folks like me, because it sounds crazy, but it's common. It's a gift, Mrs. Kolinsky. Stan was telling you he's OK. And so are you."

Mrs. Kolinsky is not her real name, but I was the preacher-man. The first time I heard whispers of the grieving seeing the dead was when I was a boy, and I have heard such stories a hundred times since, almost always whispered. My dad told me that when he was a boy of 12, he had a bedroom in the third floor attic of his family home. One night, in the middle of the night, suddenly he awoke to see his grandmother standing at the end of his bed. She was just standing there, smiling at him, and then she vanished, and he knew, deep down inside, that she was dead. My dad jumped out of bed, pulled on his pants and a shirt over his pajamas, and ran barefooted down the three flights, out the front door and down the concrete sidewalk. It was 1942. There were no cars on the street that late at night. He ran across the street, opened the unlocked front door of his aunt and grandmother's house, and rushed inside. The kitchen light was on. He found his aunt who said that her mother, his grandmother, had just died.

Over the years as a community pastor, like most pastors, I attended to death, funerals and grieving in my town. Over the years, many times, the grieving would pull me aside and say, "Preacher, I had this dream..." or "Maybe I'm going crazy, but I saw him standing there..." Sometimes when such a story was told in the company of other family members, someone's eyes would widen and he or she would say, "I saw her, too. She came to me, too." And everybody would cry, smile and believe, maybe for the first time, in the afterlife. Most often in such circumstances, there was direct communication from the dead to the grieving, with words spoken ("Mom, I'm OK."), or loving smiles, or soft eyes, or a warm feeling, all telling the living that the loved one, now dead, was all right and at peace.

True? Or crazy? I leave that for you to decide. Too many times I've seen the grieving find comfort, find solace, in such visions. Over the years, I've come to understand that the human soul is real, just like the rest of my body is real -- a reality of physics -- only the soul is somehow quantum, for lack of a more accurate word. I pray that someday science will measure the soul, see the soul, and understand what common people and mystics have known for centuries, across cultures that the dead are living, and sometimes they come to us to give us solace. Or maybe that's just crazy talk.

St. Paul wrote that we are imperishable, and will be transformed in the twinkling of an eye.

Deadly blast hits after new Yemen president sworn in

By msnbc.com news services

Updated at 8:28 a.m. ET: Al-Qaida claimed responsibility for the attack in Southern Yemen that killed at least 26 people, Reuters reported Saturday, citing an al-Qaida source.

Updated at 8 a.m. ET: SANAA, Yemen -- A car loaded with explosives killed at least 26 people and injured dozens when it was driven toward a presidential palace in the southern Yemeni city of Hadramout, far from the capital Sanaa where Abed Rabo Mansour Hadi was sworn in.

The attack underscored the violence that will be the new leader's greatest challenge.

SANAA, Yemen -- Yemen's new president Abed Rabo Mansour Hadi was sworn in before the country's parliament, replacing Ali Abdullah Saleh who ruled the country for 33 years before leaving office in a power transfer deal aimed at ending over a year of political turmoil.

Hadi, who was Saleh's vice president, took the constitutional oath of office Saturday following a presidential election earlier in the week. He stood as the sole candidate to replace Saleh in a U.S.-backed power transfer deal brokered by Gulf neighbors.

The election, where more than 60 percent of eligible voters had taken part, makes Saleh the fourth Arab autocrat to be removed from power in more than a year of mass uprisings and war that have redrawn the political map of the Middle East.

Hadi's inauguration is scheduled for Monday, which Saleh is to attend. Saleh returned to Yemen on Friday after seeking treatment in the United States for injuries suffered in an assassination attempt last year.

The Way to Appropriately Manage Your 401k Rollover | Drive ...

Frequently, the particular phrases IRA rollover and 401(k) rollover are used interchangeably because individuals use both terms to describe the movement of cash from the 401k plan to the IRA after they either change jobs or retire. The main reasons it is common to transfer funds from the 401k account when separating from your company is for the greater collection of investments along with potentially greater results and also increased control of your retirement assets. The standard 401k may provide 4 to Ten investment selections as opposed to your own IRA which is essentially limitless as to your investment choices. In reality, some people still working for an organization may attempt to move money from their 401k to their IRA to take advantages of these kinds of advantages and in some cases that is doable.

How you will manage the actual movement of your 401-k-roll over is very important as the incorrect approach will result in unnecessary withholding taxes. Whenever transferring dollars from the 401k to an IRA, you may either obtain the check from the 401k administrator and then take it to your brand-new IRA custodian otherwise you can have the 401k manager mail the money directly to your IRA custodian. The first choice is a bad alternative since the 401kmanager must hold back 20% from the balance in the event the check is being delivered to you. When the 401(k) rollover is completed directly between your 401k administrator and your brand new IRA account, no withholding is required.

Whenever shifting cash from the 401k to an IRA rollover, it is occasionally beneficial not to rollover all assets. Specifically, stock of your employer that you?ve got as part of your 401k as you can get beneficial income tax treatment if you take these shares out from the 401k and do not roll them over. Specifically, much of the gain in those shares could possibly be eligible for capital gains tax. However, if you rollover the shares to your IRA, that benefit will disappear permanently.

Occasionally, the words IRA-ROLLOVERS is meant to describe your transfer of cash from one IRA account to another. Here again, you may either receive a check from one IRA and take it to the other or have the previous IRA custodian transfer your funds directly to your new IRA custodian. The latter is a much better approach to complete an IRA rollover since it prevents any conditions that could cause pointless income tax for you. While there is no withholding whenever you take cash from an IRA bill, you need to complete the IRA rollover in Sixty days or the distribution becomes taxable to you.

Observe that all money removed from a IRA or 401k will not be entitled to rollover. For instance, once you turn age 70 1/2, you?re confronted by mandatory distributions from either type of account. Whenever acquiring those mandatory withdrawals, they get included on your tax return and are then subject to income tax. You may not do a IRA rollover of these assets as they are definitely not entitled.

You should check things over with your doctor to see how safe they are, before taking any supplement when you have a health condition.

Remember that bodybuilding supplements will only be effective if you?re working out consistently. You will have more satisfactory results with your ambition if you are serious with your workout strategies. If you simply work out when the mood strikes you; taking supplements will not be as effective. (AP) ? Iran has halted oil shipments to Britain and France, the Oil Ministry said Sunday, in an apparent pre-emptive blow against the European Union after the bloc imposed sanctions on Iran's crucial fuel exports.

The EU imposed tough sanctions against Iran last month, which included a freeze of the country's central bank assets and an oil embargo set to begin in July. Iran's Oil Minister Rostam Qassemi had warned earlier this month that Tehran could cut off oil exports to "hostile" European nations. The 27-nation EU accounts for about 18 percent of Iran's oil exports.

"Crude oil exports to British and French companies have been halted," Oil Ministry spokesman Ali Reza Nikzad-Rahbar said on the ministry's shana.ir website. "We have our own customers and have no problem to sell and export our crude oil to new customers."

Britain's Foreign Office declined comment, and there was no immediate response from French officials.

The semiofficial Mehr news agency said crude exports were halted Sunday to the two countries. It also said the National Iranian Oil Company has sent letters to some European refineries with an ultimatum to either sign long-term contracts of two to five years or be cut off.

Mehr did not specify which countries were sent the ultimatum, but Spain, Italy and Greece are among Europe's biggest buyers of Iranian oil.

Iran's targeting of Britain and France appeared to be a political decision to punish the two countries for supporting tougher sanctions against Iran over its disputed nuclear program.

Sunday's announcement follows a flurry of contradictory signals by Iran about backlash against the EU for imposing a boycott on Iranian oil.

Last week, state media said Iran was planning to cut off oil exports to six EU nations, including France, but later reports said the nations were only told that Iran has no problem finding replacement customers for the European shipments.

The EU sanctions, imposed last month, were part of Western efforts to target Iran's critical oil sector in attempts to rein in Tehran's nuclear program.

The West fears Iran's nuclear program aim to develop atomic weapons. Iran denies the allegations, and says the program is for peaceful purposes like producing electricity and medical isotopes.

100 Years From Now

Uncategorized

I hope I can pass on the essence of this to my daughter.

I feel that love and compassion are the moral fabric of world peace. Let me first define what I mean by compassion. When you have pity or compassion for a very poor person, you are showing sympathy because he or she is poor; your compassion is based on altruistic considerations. On the other hand, love towards your wife, your husband, your children, or a close friend is usually based on attachment. When your attachment changes, your kindness also changes; it may disappear. This is not true love. Real love is not based on attachment, but on altruism. In this case your compassion will remain as a humane response to suffering as long as beings continue to suffer. ~ Dalai Lama

Kate Upton: Topless in Esquire!

Sports Illustrated was Kate Upton's big coming out party, but with a new spread in March's Esquire, the swimsuit issue cover girl is only increasing her exposure.

In more ways than one.

The SI swimsuit issue cover turned Kate into an overnight sensation, but it doesn't look like she's going away anytime soon. Not with images like these ...

She looks even more stunning than you'd expect in the magazine - which is saying quite a bit from a curvaceous all-American model who's become all the rage.

The 19-year-old, who's been linked to Jets QB Mark Sanchez, has been criticized by the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show creator, but we'd say her future's looking bright.
